IAHCSMM in Wonderland

An Introduction to IAHCSMM in Wonderland

Welcome to what could be an adventure of a lifetime for you!

You can use this web page to acquaint yourself with the time-honored story of
Alice in Wonderland, and how the 2010 Annual Meeting will incorporate
itself into this theme.

We look forward to providing you with a unique opportunity for learning and social networking, and hope your stay with us in San Diego is memorable!

rabbitEducational Sessions

Be on the look out for the following icon that symbolizes the Educational offerings we have for you:

Your registration fee covers all of the following:

  • Any of the General or Concurrent Sessions Monday through Wednesday
  • The Keynote Speaker, John Nance, discussing his popular lecture “Why Hospitals Should Fly”
  • The Technical or Management Update on Sunday (you can attend the entire Technical or the the entire Management update or you can mix and match which sessions you want to attend for the day)
  • Early Bird Discussion Groups Sunday or Tuesday (note, however, these sessions have limited seating, so first-come, first-served, so make sure to show up early for a seat! And you can skip the express breakfast coupon lines, because Case Medical will be supplying coffee to keep everyone alert during these lively discussions)
  • Hands-On Labs and Workshops on Saturday (seating is limited, so refer to your confirmation materials on how to register for these sessions before your arrival; these pre-conference sessions happen the same day as the San Diego Zoo tour. Please refer to your personal schedule for Saturday to judge if time permits attendance at one or both of these events)

Please note: General and Concurrent sessions will have seating for all registrants. Selected addendum sessions (like Early Bird Discussion Groups, Hands-On Labs/Workshops and Learning Annexes) are more focus group oriented, and seating is not guaranteed.

crownExhibits

Be on the look out for the following icon that symbolizes Exhibitor and Learning Annex offerings we have for you:

Your registration fee covers all of the following:

  • Walk through a Looking Glass entrance to exhibits, but first take a moment to marvel at how simple mirrors can play fantastical tricks on the eye!
  • Admission to the Exhibit Hall, Tuesday May 4, 2010 from 8:30am to 2:30pm (you must wear your id badge provided at registration check-in for admittance to the hall)
  • Learning Annexes during Exhibits (on the exhibit floor, these annexes allow vendors to give demos of their products and services, and CE credits may be available)
  • Vendors will provide “coins” called Cheshire Chips to registrants who visit their booths and Learning Annexes. Collect these chips and you’ll be able to use them to bid on prizes donated by IAHCSMM and participating vendors. At the close of exhibits, the Queen of Hearts will make an appearance and begin auctioning off all of the prizes. Maybe your Cheshire Chip will be selected and you could win some great gifts!

grinSan Diego

  • During her visit to Wonderland, Alice played a crazy game of croquet using flamingos as mallets. Well, you won’t be able play the same game, but you can see flamingos and 800 other species of animals at the San Diego Zoo. IAHCSMM is offering a special package for registrants where round trip shuttle service and admission to the zoo can be purchased for only $10 (cost is $32 per additional guest you may want to bring with you). See the separate enclosure with these materials on how to purchase your ticket(s). Please note, if you plan on attending Saturday’s Hands-On Labs/Workshops scheduled for the same day, please review your personal schedule to judge if time permits attendance to one or both events. The shuttle/zoo package is only valid for Saturday, May 1, 2010 from 9am to 4:30pm
  • The Town and Country Resort is next door to San Diego’s largest shopping mall, so it’s a short walk from your room to a world of shopping and dining choices
  • To further explore the city away from the hustle and bustle of the meeting, hop on the trolley to visit downtown or the picturesque waterfront

top hatMeals and Social Events

Be on the look out for the following icon that symbolizes Social Event offerings we have for you:

Your registration fee covers all of the following:

  • When you arrive to check-in at the IAHCSMM registration desk, you will find us waiting for you in our version of an Enchanted Forest
  • Registrants who check-in early (Friday or Saturday) can try their hand at making their own Mad Hatter Hat! A separate hat making station will be set up filled with glitter, feathers, jewels and more! We’ll supply you the hat ready to wear. You bring your imagination to make it your own! (Hats and embellishments will be provided only on Friday and Saturday but supplies are limited! Check-in early to get this must keep souvenir!)
  • On Saturday at 3:30pm, we will have Orientation for First Time Attendees. If you’ve never been to an IAHCSMM meeting before, we highly recommend getting your feet wet by attending this session. We’re here to help you make the most out of your visit with us, and can answer all of your questions before the conference gets underway
  • Sunday’s lunch is on your own, but luckily, the hotel has five different restaurants to choose from. If something faster yet delicious is on your plate for lunch, a food court is a short walk away at the Fashion Mall. Sunday evening is the ever popular Night with SPSmedical. Bring your appetite and your dancing shoes, because this evening social is always a must see to believe! If you have a guest, make sure to check with an SPS rep prior to the party to inquire about the availability of additional tickets. The theme for the party will be announced in a separate flyer directly from SPSmedical, and usually encourages fun festive attire
  • Monday will not only bring us Keynote Speaker John Nance, but you may catch glimpses of the White Rabbit and Alice herself. Don’t be surprised if the White Rabbit joins us for the Membership Lunch too, generously provided by Spectrum Surgical and IAHCSMM
  • Tuesday’s full day of exhibits will offer a concession lunch nearby so you can grab a bite to eat and hurry back into exhibits to keep collecting your Cheshire Chips. But the true spectacle will occur when the Queen of Hearts finishes her auction and welcomes everyone to a cocktail reception at the end of the day. To close out the day and our last evening in San Diego, STERIS will treat us all to a wonderful dinner. If you have a guest, make sure to check with a STERIS rep prior to the party to inquire about the availability of additional tickets. Business casual attire is recommended
