The IAHCSMM publication, “Instrumentation Resource Course: Identification, Handling and Processing of Surgical Instruments”, authored by Natalie Lind, CRCST, IAHCSMM Educational Director, combined with “Inspecting Surgical Instruments, An Illustrated Guide”, authored by Rick Schultz, will serve as the two components for IAHCSMM’s instrument course.  Together, both books will comprise a complete course, specializing in the identification, handling, and processing of surgical instruments.  This course will provide the basic instruction for the Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) exam,  testing the  knowledge and recognition of medical instruments, as well as reviewing instrumentation practice skills.  It’s a must-have certification for CS professionals holding the CRCST designation (those wishing to study only the materials without taking the CIS exam are not required to have a CRCST certification; those wishing to take the CIS exam must hold a CRCST certification prior to sitting for the exam).
