Q: How do I form a local chapter?

A:  Regularly Scheduled Meetings - Chapter meetings provide an ideal place to network and provide educational opportunities for chapter members

News – Chapter news printed in our bi-monthly magazine Communiqué keeps members connected with chapters and their events, and to provide updated information from the entire United States

Website – List’s current chapters, chapter information and chapter events Leadership Opportunities - By participating in your chapter and activities, you can obtain the experience and skills it takes to enhance your professional skills. You will have opportunities to chair committees, present topics, spearhead or plan chapter events and conferences, and be a recognized leader in your field

Q: When are Chapter Re-Charters due?

A: All Active Chapters of IAHCSMM must annually submit a Re-Charter form by March 1st.  Chapters that Re-Charter prior to this deadline will receive a waiver of registration to the Annual Meeting for their Chapter Representative to attend the Board of Directors brunch and all educational sessions.  Chapters that do not
Re-Charter by March 1st may be in jeopardy of losing IAHCSMM chapter
affiliation status

Q: What is required to Re-Charter a Chapter and maintain IAHCSMM affiliation?

A: The Re-Charter document is split into two color coded forms.  The first form (blue) asks for documentation on the current Chapter Board of Directors, membership and miscellaneous information to ensure the chapter is active.  The second form (green) is to participate in the STERIS Chapter of the Year Award, and requests more detailed information about chapter activities from the previous year.  Chapters wishing to only Re-Charter should complete the first form (blue), and Chapters wishing to Re-Charter and compete for the Chapter of the Year award must complete both forms (blue and green)

Q: How do I form a chapter meeting?

A:

  1. Determine the needs of your audience: thorough knowledge of the needs of your group is essential in selecting the right speaker. 
  2. Establish your date, time, budget and location
  3. Identify the type of speaker who will best match the needs of your audience
  4. Locate your resources using personal references or speakers you favored in the past
  5. Get it in writing with a letter of agreement or contract that clearly outlines the expectations of both you and your speaker
  6. Work with your speaker by sharing information about your group and a clear outline of what you expect
  7. Set the stage and make sure the room is set up for optimal impact
  8. Evaluate the results by having your audience complete evaluations on the speaker and the presentation
